A Stunning Wedding in the Centre of York

I was so pleased that Amy and Adam choose me as their Principal Hotel wedding Photographer. This was a fabulous wedding at a stunning venue, and one I have photographed many times. The couple tied the knot at the Holy Trinity church on Micklegate,  just five mins walk from the reception venue. Amy and the girls got ready at The Principal in the morning and I arrived to find everyone in fabulous spirits and excited for the day ahead. Amy had arranged lots of special details for the day which included a pearl necklace from her Nana and her engagement ring was her Grandma’s. She choose silk flowers so she could give them as gifts to her bridesmaids and church readers after the wedding. She also included her own handmade paper flowers in the bouquets which added a lovely personal touch.

Wedding Day of Surprises

Once all the girls were prepped and ready go we had the excitment of not just one, but two Dad reveals! The first being the reveal of Amy in her dress which got a brilliant response from her Dad! The second being the surprise reveal of a cute Morris Minor car which was a gift from Amy to her Dad for the drive over to the church. It was lovely to see the look on her Dad’s face as Amy led him out to the car (apparently his favourite car of all time).

Meanwhile Adam and his groomsmen were getting ready at at his family home very close to York Minster. They then walked over to the church through the busy streets of York in time to meet the guests as they started to arrive for the ceremony. The boys looked very dapper in their blue suits and burgundy ties.

A York Church Ceremony

Amy had spent time with her Mum picking the perfect dress and her Mum also picked out a gorgeous veil for her. She looked absolutely stunning walking down the aisle next to her Dad, listening to a recording of her friends from the Royal Holloway Gospel Choir (which was a lovely surprise for the friends in the audience). Adam was quite emotional to see his bride to be and everyone including Dad had a little tear as they arrived at the front of the church. The ceremony went without a hitch with some lovely readings. Amy and Adam walked out to much applause and soon after entered a very long confetti line in front of the church doors. I think this may be up there with the most epic confetti lines ever. They certainly got showered!

A Reception at the Principal Hotel

The couple left the church in the Morris Minor whilst still being showered with extra confetti and lots of applause. The guests made their own way back through the cobbled streets of York to the venue. On arrival, Amy’s Dad got to try out the Morris and Amy had time to down a cup of tea before the group shots. We had time for a quick stroll around the garden and some couple portraits before Amy and Adam joined their guests on the terrace.

Soon it was time for the wedding breakfast and the couple walked into the stunning room to much applause. The speeches were all fabulous, both funny and very moving and it was nice to see Amy and Adam get up together to address the room. There were some lovely details on the table including some wooden coasters for the favours, made by Amy’s Dad, and which also acted as the place cards so people knew where to sit. They also had little tins of tea which they gave to their guests. The couple love tea and this was apparently their own blend made up for them by Twinings, so a really special treat for their guests. Amy’s brother did a fabulous job of acting as master of ceremonies.

After dinner we had a bit of time before the evening celebrations. I knew Amy and Adam wanted a shot of all their guests around this time and this took a bit of planning. The most logical place to do this was on the  grand staircase but we weren’t quite sure if we’d fit 120 people on there! We made the decision to go for it and got the couple and all the guests on the stairs, it was a tight squeeze but we just managed to get everyone in the photo. Afterwards we took a few more couple photos utilising the staircase and fabulous interiors of the hotel.

Finally it was time for the evening festivities. The couple knew they wanted music as a big focus of the day so they had planned a  ceilidh band followed by a silent disco. There first dance was absolutely brilliant with a choreographed routine which they performed really well. The Ceilidh went down like a house on fire with everyone having a total blast and the silent disco was quite hilarious. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day and a fabulous wedding to photograph.

We would highly recommend Kirsty! She photographed our day and the photographs have come out even better than we could have imagined. She listened to what we wanted and was on board with all of our plans/timings/feel for the day, as well as providing a pre-wedding shoot. She captured the day really naturally and our couples photos are beautifully cinematic. We would recommend her for any event and particularly for weddings!
