A Stunning Chapel and Barn Wedding
This was a fabulous day for some Barmbyfield Barns wedding photography in York. It was a fabulous, high energy, fun event with a great atmosphere. Lucy and Matt had their ceremony in the chapel at St Peter’s School in York; a stunning building on the banks of the river Ouse and interestingly the fourth oldest school in the world. They then moved on to a fabulous reception at Barmbyfields Barns just on the outskirts of the city.
The weather was not really that promising for the day but the couple were so lucky with it turning out much better than predicted and we managed to escape the rain for most of the day. We started off with the bridal preparations at Lucy’s parents B&B in the centre of York. I arrived to a very bustling household with bridesmaids and flower girls at every turn. It was a great atmosphere with fun and laughter, much card reading, gift giving and plenty of hugs and happy tears. I could just see how wonderfully close this family was and they were so friendly and accommodating.
St Peter’s Chapel Wedding Ceremony in York
After the preparations it was on to St Peter’s Chapel where the boys were already waiting having greeted the guests as they arrived. The chapel is an absolutely stunning building both outside and in. A lovely large and very light interior which made a beautiful setting for the ceremony. After the ceremony the couple walked out to much applause and a very long line of confetti throwers. Then it was time for the group shots before they hopped into the wedding car and head off to Barmbyfields.
A Fabulous Barn Wedding Reception
The venue location is just a few miles outside York close to the village of Barmby Moor. Barmbyfield Barns is a collection of rural barns off the beaten track and with a great deal of rustic charm. This type of venue gave the couple a very personal experience, allowing them to do much of their own styling and decorations, which they did exceptionally well. Everywhere we turned there were lovely personal touches, from willow branches, candles and family photos, to rustic signs and messages.
The speeches went without a hitch and were very amusing but also very heartfelt. The surprise of the day came after the wedding breakfast. Suddenly there was quite a bit of commotion and people running about. A couple of characters from Mary Poppins appeared out of nowhere followed by a dance troup consisting of many of the guests!!. Mary Poppins has always been Lucy’s favourite film! and the performance was put together by her cousin and the two main characters were played by her Mum’s best friend from school and her husband. This was a total surprise to everyone including the couple but it was brilliantly performed and it really got the evening celebrations off to a roaring start.
Finally it was time for the first dance and then soon all the guests were piling on to the floor for some serious dance moves. All in all this was a brilliant wedding to photograph, filled with so much fun and laughter. Lucy and Matt are such a lovely couple with a fabulous group of family and friends, the whole day had an amazing atmosphere. A huge congratulations to both Lucy and Matt and thank you for choosing me for your Barmbyfield Barns wedding photography. All the very best for a wonderful future together.
