Burley in Wharfedale Wedding
We had a fabulous day for this Burley in Wharfedale wedding with Laura and Darren. The whole day took place in this picturesque little village situated in the Wharfedale valley in West Yorkshire. The ceremony was at St Mary’s Church followed by a yurt reception in the woodland grounds of Greystone Manor, a Victorian house that is now the home of Gyll Royd School. We had a mixture of weather with some lovely sunshine at the church followed by a few downpours at the Yurt. However the rain didn’t dampen anyones spirits and we still had enough breaks in the weather for some photography in the manor grounds.
Thoughtful gifts and stunning, colourful wedding flowers
I arrived in the morning to meet Laura at her parents’ house in the village. I was greeted by a very busy household which included many bridesmaids and many cute babies. The girls were busy getting ready and were all in great spirits and excited for the day ahead. At one point a couple of the groomsmen arrived with some really lovely gifts for Laura from the groom. All the girls were so impressed with these very thoughtful gifts from Darren which included some perfumes that Lauren had found on a previous holiday and really liked. Darren had remembered how much she liked them and had tracked them down for the big day!
Soon the flowers arrived and I was so impressed with the stunning bouquets, as was Laura. Later at the yurt we also saw some of the most beautiful arrangements I have ever seen at a wedding, all thanks to Daisy Hoban, the florist for the day. I loved the boho style of this wedding with Laura’s stunning lace dress and flower head piece, the vibrant mixed colourful flowers and decorations and a free-spirit, romantic feel to the day.
A beautiful church ceremony in Burley in Wharfedale
Darren and his groomsmen were at the church to greet the guests as they arrived and I have to say Darren looked so happy to see Laura as she walked down the aisle with her Dad on her arm. The ceremony went without a hitch and the couple walked out to much applause. Darren, now a commercial airline pilot, was once in the airforce. So the couple were greeted outside the church door with a saber arch demonstrated by some of Darren’s airforce buddies. This was followed by one of the longest confetti lines ever organised! Oli, the cutest little page boy, did a fantastic job of handing out the confetti cones and I got plenty of images of the couple being showered by a very enthusiastic crowd.
A boho styled, woodland yurt reception
The couple drove to the yurt location in a cute little blue Morris Minor, where their guests were waiting to greet them again. The clouds were looming on the horizon so we managed to quickly squeeze in a few group shots before the rains came down. During a break in the clouds we managed a few couple portraits in the manor grounds but unfortunately got caught out by another monsoon like downpour! Whilst we were sheltering under the manor porch I took the opportunity to chat to Laura and Darren about their day and get to know them a bit, whilst taking a few portraits. They are such a lovely couple, full of laughter and fun and clearly made for each other. They finally had to make a run for it back to the Yurt because that rain was not letting up but that didn’t dampen their spirits.
Soon it was time for the wedding breakfast. The guests sat down to hear some hilarious speeches which had everyone in stitches. They then tucked into some fabulous food from Bear’s Pantry, which included some very colourful dishes and an impressive smoked chicken dish served under a glass dome. Finally it was time for the first dance and Darren whisked his bride around the dancefloor before all the guests joined them and rocked the night away.
Thank you to Darren and Laura for choosing me as your photographer for your big day. It was a pleasure to photograph your colourful and creative wedding and all the best for your future lives together.
