It was an absolute pleasure to cover this gorgeous Tithe Barn wedding for Gemma and Jonny. As a Tithe Barn Wedding Photographer, I’ve photographed many weddings at this stunning barn venue. It is a grade II listed building set within the Duke of Devonshire’s Bolton Abbey Estate in the Yorkshire Dales. A one of a kind large rustic barn with a unique atmosphere and charm and fantastic views over the Bolton Abbey ruins.
This was a fabulous couple who were just brilliant to work with and made my job a lot of fun. They had a lovely day full of sunshine and laughter with a great group of family and friends.
If you are planning a wedding at Tithe Barn check out some of my favourite images from Gemma & Jonny’s day below. Brial Preparations
Gemma and her bride tribe got ready at the Hotel Rendevous in Skipton. I arrived to find a very small room packed with loads of people. Always a photography challenge that’s quite fun to navigate! Gemma had seven lovely bridesmaids and a super fun bridesman.
A Gift from the Groom
At some point during the preparatory proceedings, the girls surprised Gemma with a wonderful gift from Jonny. She was so excited, to say the least, and was very happy when she opened her red box to reveal some beautiful earrings. There were a few tears in the house and a lot of cheering .
Gemma looked absolutely gorgeous in her beautiful fitted white wedding gown and full length veil from Dotty Bridal. Her gorgeous cream and green wedding bouquet was designed by Plantation Addingham.
The bridesmaids also looked amazing in their full length navy gowns. It was plain to see how happy this bride was and her infectious laughter spread to everyone in the room. As she stepped out fully dressed in front of her bride tribe and parents everyone could not help but react in awe over how lovely she looked. Both Gemma’s mother and father had emotional reactions to seeing Gemma in her dress and gave her huge hugs. The whole room exploded in celebration!
Groom Party Arrival
Meanwhile Jonny and his entourage had arrived at the hotel. He and his groomsmen spent some time greeting family and friends and fastening their buttonholes. Everyone was in great spirits and excited for the day ahead. Jonny and his groom tribe looked really dapper in their classic brown suits, blue ties and cream buttonholes.
A Wedding Ceremony at Tithe Barn
Gemma and her Dad arrived at Tithe barn in a classic wedding car in the best of spirits. Her father was clearly so proud of her and they enjoyed laughing and joking together. He helped her from the car and she dashed in the side entrance to hide from sight before the ceremony began. After both Gemma & Jonny had met separately with the registrar the ceremony began. The music started to play and the bridesmaids walked the aisle in pairs in their lovely navy dresses. One of the bridesmaids was of course escorted by the very dapper bridesman.
Finally Gemma entered the barn, escorted by her father and all eyes were on her as they began to walk the aisle. Gemma had a huge smile on her face especially as she approached Jonny. Her husband to be looked so happy and a bit emotional to see her arrive at the top of the aisle by his side. The ceremony was really lovely and the wedding couple clearly enjoyed it. The twinkling fairy lights and candles in the barn only added to the romantic feeling of this important event.
As the newlyweds shared their first kiss, the room erupted in applause and cheers. They were officially husband and wife, and they walked the aisle to much applause.
Confetti at Tithe Barn
Everyone gathered outside the barn waiting eagerly to bombard Gemma and Jonny with confetti. As the couple emerged from the barn it was a moment of pure joy and celebration, as their family and friends showered them with flower petals. Gemma and Jonny were beaming with joy as they made their way through the confetti, hand in hand. They couldn’t have asked for a more perfect moment to kick off their new life together.
Afterwards they spent some time catching up with friends and family. There were hugs and kisses all round and the canapés and Champagne were flowing.
Wedding Photos at Tithe Barn and Bolton Abbey
After the drinks reception Gemma and Jonny wanted to take the short trip down to Bolton Abbey for some natural couple photographs. I started off with a quick shot of them under the Tithe Barn archway then we all jumped in the cars to head off down the road.
Bolton Abbey is a beautiful location next door to Tithe Barn and set in the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Dales. At the heart of the estate lie the ruins of an Augustinian Priory. These dramatic ruins are set in a lovely riverside location and offer a variety of architectural and natural backdrops. Gemma and Jonny enjoyed walking hand in hand around the ruins and across the river and back whilst I captured them on camera. I could tell this couple are really made for each other with their easy banter and they shared so much laughter.
A Wedding Reception at Tithe Barn
After Gemma and Jonny arrived back from Bolton Abbey it was time for their wedding breakfast which was starting with the speeches. The couple walked into the barn with their hands raised in celebration. There was so much applause that you could really feel the love, support and energy in the room!
First to start speaking was Gemma’s Dad and he was followed by Jonny and the best man. All the speeches were fabulous being both heartfelt and very funny. I think Gemma was in stitches right the way through and Jonny also clearly enjoyed himself. As the speeches ended, the guests raised their glasses in a toast to the newlyweds, and the room was filled with cheers and applause. It was clear that this was a special moment, and everyone present felt honored to be a part of it.
Evening Festivities at Tithe Barn
Soon it was time for the evening festivities, which got underway with the cutting of the wedding cake. This was not exactly a traditional cake, more of an amazing cheese tower in the shape of a cake. This incredible creation by West Country Cheese & Co went down really well with the guests who enjoyed tucking in after Gemma and Jonny had done the slicing honours.
After the cheese the couple moved straight on to their first dance. Tithe barn has a super space for the dancing, a big dance floor with some lovely ambient lighting. I just loved their first dance. They hit the floor with lots of energy and swung each other around to many cheers of support from their guests. The guests then joined them to rock the night away. I always enjoy photographing crazy moves on the dance floor and this crowd did certainly not disappoint!
This was such a fabulous wedding day. Tithe Barm is a beautiful, rustic, romantic venue that provided the perfect backdrop for a day filled with fun, love and celebration. Thank you so much to Gemma and Jonny for choosing me as your Tithe Barn wedding photographer. I had an absolute blast photographing your day and meeting your family and friends. All the best for your future lives together x
