We had a lovely day for Rebecca and João’s recent wedding at Lotherton hall. They tied the knot at this stunning Edwardian country estate near Aberford in West Yorkshire. They then moved on to The Northern Monk Brewery in Leeds for their wedding reception. We started the day at the Hilton in Leeds for the bridal prep and then we drove over to the hall for the ceremony. All the guests and the groom travelled in by vintage double decker and Rebecca and her Dad arrived in a gorgeous vintage Rolls Royce.

Rebecca and João met at law school in Leeds and have lived here ever since. The wedding was a mix of English and Spanish with João being half Spanish. All the spaniards flew over for the day. Rebecca was very relaxed when I met her and excited for the day. They narrowly avoided disaster in the morning however, as she accidentally sent a photo of her dress hung up to a WhatsApp group which included her husband-to-be ! She managed to delete it before he saw it but it set the girls’ pulses racing briefly!!

The ceremony room at Lotherton was beautiful. Rebecca looked absolutely stunning walking down the aisle on her Dad’d arm to ‘At Last’ by Etta James. Apparently when she got to the top of the aisle, João said to her “You look alright” in a very faint praise sort of way with a glint in his eyes, which is why she started chuckling and also set the front row off. After the ceremony there were lots of congratulations and a long line of very enthusiastic confetti throwers. We then took the opportunity to make use of the stunning grounds to take some couple portraits.

Soon it was time to move on to the reception venue which was Chapter Hall at the Northern Monk brewery in the centre of Leeds. This is a grade II listed mill with exposed red-brick walls, original flagstone floor and wrought iron pillars. It was a blank canvas and a beautifully lit space which allowed Rebecca and João to add there own personal touches. Rebecca mentioned they had tried to bring the feel of a semi-outdoor wedding in Europe into a Leeds brewery with their flowers, lights and decorations. The canapés included manchego and cherry rarebits, local home smoked salmon blinis and mini Yorkshire puds.

At the end of the speeches, one of the Spaniards (Daniel) stood up to initiate their traditional !Viva los Novios! toast, with all the guests shouting back “Viva!” This is basically like “long live the bride and groom” and at Spanish wedding reception people just call it out randomly throughout the evening with everyone responding. They had a mix of English and Spanish music on their playlist for the dinner and through into the dancing.

This was an amazing wedding and I loved the contrast between the ceremony and reception venues which were both fabulous places. A huge congratulations to Rebecca & João on a brilliant day and all the best for your future together. For other suppliers involved in this wedding please see the bottom of the post.
