We had a fabulous sunny day for Suzi and Matt’s recent wedding at Wentworth Castle, including a ceremony at Wakefield Cathedral. The day started at Suzi’s family home in Wakefield where I met her and her many bridesmaids who were busy getting ready. Suzi and the girls where in great spirits and excited for the big day. There was much laughter and the handing out of numerous presents. Once everyone was prepped and beautiful they headed off in style to the cathedral in a classic Austin wedding car, first the bridesmaids followed by Suzi and her Dad.

I arrived at the cathedral earlier to meet the groom before the brides arrival and get a few photographs of him with his groomsmen. Matt looked very happy and relaxed and he was so excited to see his bride to be. Wakefield cathedral is a fabulous place to have a ceremony. The interior of the building is striking with it’s medieval columns, chandeliers and high 15th century wooden ceiling. Suzi looked absolutely stunning in her Ellis bridal gown walking down the aisle with her Dad.

The ceremony went without a hitch with some lovely readings and choral singing. Suzi is herself a classical trained soprano and some of her friends, who were also professional singers, performed in the cathedral on the day. Finally after the vows and exchange of rings Suzi and Matt walked back down the aisle to much applause followed by a shower of confetti outside the front doors.

The cathedral is situated right in the centre of wakefield in a pedestrianised area that happened to have a seaside themed festival on at the same time. This made for a very vibrant, celebratory feel as we all came out of the cathedral and were surrounded by festival goers, music and all sorts of stalls. Matt and Suzi certainly had an audience. This was particularly noted during the group shots as we were photo bombed by some rather unusual looking birds, much to everyones amusement! Finally the guests and the couple moved towards their London Routemaster double decker bus for their trip to the reception venue.

Wentworth castle gardens is a lovely place to  have a wedding celebration. It is a listed country house in South Yorkshire with castle ruins, an ornate 19th century conservatory and large formal gardens with impressive tree lined corridors. On their arrival I whisked Suzi and Matt off for a few quick couple shots utilising the stunning grounds of the venue. I knew they were particularly keen to have some shots up by the castle ruins so we all hopped on to one of the venue’s golf buggies which are used for travelling around the site.

The couple are big tennis fans and I loved their tennis themed decorations throughout the venue. They also included a couple of table tennis tables on site and the guests throughly enjoyed themselves having group matches. The speeches went really well throughout dinner and were very fun and also very moving. There was definitely quite a lot of laughter and a few tears. The evening ended with the first dance followed by some quite impressive moves on the dance floor by the guests.

It was an absolute pleasure to photograph this brilliant day  for such a lovely couple. I hope Suzi and Matt are having a fantastic time in Thailand on their honeymoon and I wish them all the best for their future lives together. I’d like to thanks Lucille Moore for assisting/ second shooting on the day.
