I had a fabulous day photographing Emma and Pete’s Woolas Barn Wedding. It was a colourful day full of sunshine and laughter. They had a great group of family and friends who created a lovely atmosphere for the days festivities. Woolas Barn is a beautiful modern rustic barn venue situated just eight miles from the centre of York. It used to be a working farm but has now been converted into a cosy intimate wedding venue. They have a lovely ceremony room transformed from a horse stable with original timbers and exposed brickwork. The Granary is the oldest part of the venue, built in 1863 and has authentic barn doors, a dramatically high ceiling and cosy snugs. The venue sits within 500 acres of gorgeous Yorkshire countryside and farmland. What more could you want for a lovely, intimate wedding day with a colourful, rustic vibe.

Wedding Preparations
Emma and her bridesmaids choose to get ready at the lovely Middlethorpe Hall which is just six miles from Woolas Barn. It’s a gorgeous venue itself and is set within 20 acres of its own gardens and parkland. Arriving at the venue there were bright blue skies and sunshine. I met the girls in one of the upstairs rooms and they were all in great spirits, excited for the day ahead. There was lots of hugs and smiles and hanging out chatting on the four poster bed.
Emma looked stunning in her gorgeous white tea length wedding dress and fingertip veil. The deep red colour of her lipstick complemented the beautiful rustic tones in her autumn bouquet. They decided to do a bridal reveal to all the girls and Emma’s Mum and Dad. Everyone was suitably impressed at seeing Emma look so stunning and I loved the surprised looks on their faces!
Arrival to Woolas Barn
Pete and his groomsmen arrived at Woolas Barn with smiles and high spirits, eagerly anticipating the day ahead. The boys looked very dapper in their classic blue suits with rust red/ orange ties. Perfect colours for an Autumn wedding. They welcomed their guests as they arrived to the venue and enjoyed a couple of pints which they pulled themselves from the outside bar!
Soon the wedding car arrived at Woolas Barn with Emma and the bridesmaids. Emma was beaming as she got out of the car to hug her mother in law and greet other guests. She then went of to talk with the the registrar whilst the guests were directed into the ceremony barn.
A Wedding Ceremony at Woolas Barn
As the wedding guests took their seats in the Woolas Barn ceremony room they laughter and joked with each other. The ceremony approached and the groomsmen were chatting to Pete at the top of the aisle. Pete looked very calm and happy as he waited for the service to begin. Soon Emma’s sister appeared at the other end of the room and started to walk the aisle in her beautiful dark green bridesmaids dress. She was quickly followed by Emma and her father who walked arm in arm and looking very happy together. As Emma approached the top of the aisle the couple smiled at each other. You could tell they were very excited for their wedding day to begin.
The ceremony went without a hitch with some lovely readings, lots of smiles and applause. The love and warmth in the air were palpable, and it was evident that the couple was surrounded by an abundance of love and support. The rustic barn provided a perfect backdrop for the romantic and intimate ceremony. This brought together family and friends to witness the beginning of a new chapter in the Emma & Pete’s lives. As their marriage was announced, the newlyweds raised their arms in celebration and walked down the aisle stopping briefly for a kiss half way. The audience celebrated with cheering and clapping a the couple made their way outside.
A Fabulously Fun Confetti Tunnel
The guests were clearly excited and having a great time as they made their way out of the wedding barn into the sunshine. They formed a tunnel and grabbed handfuls of confetti eagerly awaiting the chance to bombard the couple. As Emma and Pete emerged from the barn they were bombarded immediately and clearly loved every minute of it. The barn provide a lovely backdrop for the confetti throwing and the scene was very backlit which created a beautiful glow around the couple and a sparkle on the confetti.
Afterwards the guest enjoyed greeting the couple with hugs, kisses and congratulations. They also had the opportunity for some lovely champagne and canapés.
Wedding Photography at Woolas Barn
Emma and Pete wanted to have some natural photographs taken of them together around the venue. Woolas Barn is situated in a very picturesque location so we took advantage of the surrounding countryside with farmland, country lanes and and an apple orchard. The sun was still shining and we had glorious blue skies as they walked hand in hand around the location. I took a few happy sunlit portraits.
A Woolas Barn Wedding Reception
Soon it was time for the wedding breakfast. The guests started to take their seats while Emma and Pete waited in the Granary waiting to be called in. The couple walked in to a raucous crowd who were enthusiastically cheering and clapping. You could see how much love there was in that room!
The speeches were a testament to the love and support that Emma and Pete had from their friends and family. Each speech was unique, humorous and touching Together they painted a lovely picture of the couple’s journey together. As the speeches ended, the guests raised their glasses in a toast to the newlyweds, and the room was filled with cheers and applause. It was clear that this was a special moment, and everyone present felt honored to be a part of it.
Night Time Portraits and a Sparkler Tunnel
As night time rolled in the weather was still lovely. The moon was clear in the sky which was a really deep blue colour. Emma and Pete wanted a few night time portraits so we stepped outside just in time to capture a few photographs as the sun started to set on the horizon. We also captured a few dancing shots in front of the sparkling fairy lights.
The guests then piled out of the barn in high spirits excited to be involved in some sparkler celebrations. Each guest held one or two lit sparklers creating a tunnel of light for the couple to walk through. Of course they did their, well known by now, half way kiss, which just added to the romance of the moment!
The Dancefloor
Soon it was time for the dancing. Pete swung Emma around the dance floor in front of a lovely wall of fairy lights. Afterwards the guests joined them to rock the night away! I love it when you get a boisterous crowd who really want to strut their moves on the dance floor and this crowd certainly did not dissappoint!
This was a beautiful wedding day. The Woolas Barn is a beautiful, rustic, intimate venue that provided the perfect backdrop for a day filled with love and celebration.
