Wedding Photography in The Lakes
I absolutely love a wedding in The Lakes!. The Lake district is one of the most scenic areas of the country and one of my favourite places to cover weddings. The huge variety of lake district venues and stunning surroundings can make for some incredible events and some beautiful photography.
Below is a set of images from Mary and Nige’s day, one of my favourite Lake District weddings. Not only because it was set in such a stunning location, but also because the couple and their family/friends were so fabulous and welcoming. It was such a lovely day, amazing weather, incredible views and the whole day had a really warm, friendly and fun atmosphere. I do like a couple with character and you couldn’t help but love Mary’s big laugh and Nige’s cheeky sense of humour, they made my job as a photographer very easy!
The couple are currently living in Dubai but came back to Mary’s roots to get married at the family home in the village of Wreay in the middle of the Lake District. Immediately I was struck by the incredible views from the front garden which was a perfect setting for their marquee. On entering the house I was greeted with a nice cup of tea and a fun, hectic atmosphere with family, bridesmaids, flower girls and page boys mulling about. There was a lot of laughter, hugs and just a few tears especially when Mary was given a gift and a very moving letter from her husband to be. Mary looked absolutely stunning in her Lusan Mandongus dress as she walked downstairs to see her Dad and all the girls.
Lake District Wedding Ceremony
Meanwhile, Nige was at the local village pub with his groomsmen having a couple of beers and greeting other groups of friends and family as they arrived for the big day. The boys looked fabulous in their blue suits. They set off for the ceremony, which was being held in a beautiful little Lake District church in the village of Wreay, literally 100 yards away from the family home. St Mary’s church has quite a history and is a beautiful building. It was built around 1840 by a female architect and is based on a Roman basilica. It is characterised as having extraordinary architectural works; symbols, ornaments and carvings, many of which were carried about by the architect herself. Nige looked very happy awaiting his bride to be.
The ceremony went so well, Mary walked in positively beaming with her Dad on her arm. The vows were emotional and moving and both Mary and Nige left the church to great applause and some fantastic confetti throwing! Then it was back to the house for canapés, drinks and the big group shot. We then went off to explore the surrounding area for a few couple portraits. Mary took us on a tour of her old childhood stomping grounds, the views, country lanes and a neighbour’s garden filled with blossom trees made for beautiful locations for the photographs.
Next we were back for the wedding breakfast and a brilliant set of speeches, both moving and very funny, and then the cutting of the cake. Finally we saw some fabulous moves on the dance floor by both the couple and many of the guests. I took one last photo of the sun setting behind the marquee before heading off for the night.
A huge congratulations to Mary and Nige and thank you so much for choosing me as your Lake District wedding photographer. I hope you are having an amazing time on your honeymoon in the Maldives, Jealous!!
