We had a beautiful sunny day for Paige and David’s fabulous wedding at Thirsk Lodge Barns. This is a lovely luxury barn wedding venue set in the rolling countryside near to the town of Thirsk. The barns are exclusive use so Paige and David had the whole venue to themselves for the day. I arrived to the top of the driveway to see such a lovely landscape. I felt like I was immersed in nature being surrounded by daffodils and seeing wild hares bounding across the sun fields. This was a great start to the day.
I met up with Paige and her bridesmaids and family in the onsite cottage where they were getting ready. Everyone was in fantastic spirits and especially pleased that they were seeing some sunshine. I always love this part of the day, it’s often quite relaxed and I get the time to mull around, meet everyone and have a nice cup of tea to get me going. Once Paige and the girls were ready we took the opportunity to take a few shots in the cottage garden. I then went off to see David and the groomsmen who were happily attaching buttonholes and having a few drams of whiskey. I followed the boys over to the ceremony barn where the guests were waiting.
The ceremony barn is a really lovely space, nice and rustic with good light and a lovely backdrop of twinkling fairy lights. David chatted to his family and groomsmen whilst he waited for his bride. Then the doors were opening at the back of the room for the procession of bridesmaids who all looked stunning in their emerald green dresses. Afterwards came Paige and her father. She looked absolutely gorgeous in her elegant white gown and I loved the big smile she gave to David when their eyes connected as she walked towards him.
The ceremony went without a hitch and the newly wed couple walked out to much applause. They then exited the building into a very long confetti tunnel in the courtyard. Guest enjoyed thoroughly bombarding them as they walked down the line! After much congratulations, hugs, kisses, champagne and canapés I took a stroll with the couple around the venue for some natural couple portraits. The weather was still great and we had plenty of lovely natural backdrops for the photography. Afterwards, we returned to the barns and the couple made their grand entrance into the wedding breakfast room. I loved the napkin waving and the couple enjoyed being thoroughly cheered in for dinner.
One of my favourite parts of this wedding day was the evening celebrations. The couple had hired a fantastic local band called Back Chat Brass. I’ve photographed this fabulous band before on several wedding days and they are always brilliant fun! This was a total surprise to the guests who were all outside chatting in the courtyard. Suddenly the band marched into the venue and performed in front of the crowd through the open veranda doors. This set off a lot of cheering and dancing and then the crowd followed the band in a long procession back into the building. I love a wedding with an energetic dance floor and this band certainly got everyone rocking the night away ! Before I left of the evening we took another stroll outside, as the light was getting lower, for some beautiful sunset shots.
